Next, each group will get a client they will photograph for, using studio lighting. Your group will either get food, clothing, or products as the subject matter from your client. Each group will get a brief description of who their client is, what they need photographed, and some inspiration images chosen to help your group in photographing. The groups will use a corresponding page on Mahara HERE to learn about their client and document their process, from initial planning to final images. This will require planning outside of class and then scheduled shooting in class this week and after spring break.

You will be partnered with another AP Photo 2 or 3 student in order to offer her or him feedback on their AP Concentration. I specifically chose who to partner you with based on your work and concentration theme.
You can go HERE to see a list of all students and follow the link to their Mahara page. At the bottom of their Concentration page you will write feedback, answering the following questions about their work in complete sentences (so your person knows what the question is): 1. Before reading their artist statement write what you believe their concentration is based on what you see. (Now go read their statement and comment on the difference or similarity). 2. Identify two strengths that you see in this student's work/approach. Refer to works in their portfolio to justify your response. 3. Identify a suggestion for improvement for their portfolio. This could be a formal or technical consideration in their work, or maybe an encouragement to explore a direction further. Be constructive! 4. An important element of the AP score is that there is a visual and compositional connection between all 12 of the concentration pieces. Comment on what you see as the visual connection between their images or, if there isn't enough of one, give her or him an idea of how this visual connection could be created as they shoot more AP images. 5. Leave some other comments on their work or ask a question. See the list HERE to find your partner! On your Ego/Alter-Ego Mahara Page you will make two lists:
First, TECHNICAL and CONCEPTUAL Make a list of the technical things you are doing in your selected ego photographs: short depth of field, color, rule of thirds, specific cropping. In the second column list how you could transform these things. In the next column list the conceptual things you are doing: things hidden and things revealed, warmth, closeness, loneliness, reflection, femininity, transparency, childhood, adulthood, introspection. In the last column list how you could transform these concepts or ideas. Make another list about your person, their PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL traits, and then a transformation for each, similar to how you did the first list. See my example HERE. The next step in the process of photographing in different lighting scenarios is for your group to upload one edited photo for each kind of lights and create a diagram of your lighting on the Sylights website HERE. The login is my email: [email protected] and the password is photo.
Your group should have diagrams and photos for: -Natural Light -Incandescent Light (regular bulbs, also called Tungsten on Sylights) -Softbox (technically it is an Octobox) -Recreated portrait using Monobloc strobes (make sure to add the original photo as well) |
